Large Dog Breeds
Dogs come in all shapes and sizes and a lot of people prefer those dogs that fall into the large dog breed category. It is certainly is enjoyable to own a dog that is considered to be large however in order to provide a good home and environment for these type of dogs there are things that have to be considered.
The Proper Environment
Large dogs need room to move around this includes the indoor environment as well as the outdoors. Ideally having enough property where the large dog can go outdoors and have a good run is ideal. Not everyone has the luxury of being able to provide this type of space for a big dog. The alternative is being able to have enough time to walk the dog on a regular basis and to have access to open but controlled areas where the dog is allowed to get a good run.
Airedale Terrier
For those that like breeds that fall into the Terrier group a good choice is the Airedale Terrier. It is the largest of the entire Terrier breed. It is a long-haired dog with a muscular body and a great personality.
Australian Bulldog
Many people want a big dog but are not necessarily keen on those with long coats because of the upkeep. A good choice, in this case, would be the Australian bulldog. This is a breed that is comprised of a mix of the English Bulldog and the Australian pig hunting dog.
Basset Hound
There is something appealing about the Basset Hound with those big floppy ears and wide eyes. Although classed as a big dog it comes into the medium category for this size. These dogs are muscular and are known for their playfulness.
Boxer
Boxers are often chosen not only because of their large size but because they are considered to be a very handsome looking dog. Their coat is easy to maintain as it is short and it is classed as a medium sized dog in the large category. This is a dog that has a lot of muscle power.
These are just a few examples of the many dogs that fall into the large breed category. They all have their own characteristics about them and it is just a matter of choosing the one that is going to suit the new owner the best.
